![]() A new year is always a good time for reflection. We had some big wins in 2016, including moving into our new facility on the Greenbelt, producing our first rosé, and being named the 2016 Idaho Winery of the Year. As grateful as we are for these developments, we are looking forward to what’s to come, and from where we’re sitting things look exciting! Here are a few reasons why the Telaya family is certain that 2017 is a great year to be an Idaho winery. 1. Idaho wineries are approachable Wine hasn’t always been an accessible source of enjoyment. Some wineries expect you to know exactly what you’re looking to taste, or at least that you have the language and experience tasting fine wines to describe exactly what characteristics you’re tasting when you sip. You won’t find that in Idaho. Idaho wineries are welcoming, and because they are, everyone benefits. We get to see new faces on a daily basis, and we get to introduce people to new tastes and experiences. But a welcoming spirit in no way sacrifices the quality and subtleties of our wines. Moving into the new year, we are more committed than ever to continue making people feel at home with us and taking our guests on new journeys. And we’re not alone! With 52 wineries in Idaho there’s lots to try, and there is a community of down-to-earth winemakers eager to introduce you to the products of their labor. 2. You can start drinking some of Idaho’s amazing whites, whose fruits were harvested in 2016’s fantastic conditions. 2017 has a lot to thank 2016 for. We saw great temperatures that only hit 100 degrees a few times, and the fall’s temperatures were on the cool side. Together, that created a ripening season that was longer than usual, which is perfect for great flavor development. 2016’s harvest season also saw larger production than previous years, so there will plenty of wine to share once it’s bottled and distributed. Some of these amazing whites that were produced will be released in 2017, so keep an eye out! (Our reds also benefited from 2016’s conditions, but you’ll have to wait a little bit longer for them!) 3. There are fantastic places to experience Idaho wine. And when we say “fantastic,” we are referring to both the wines and the environments of these tasting rooms. We want to give a shout out to Koenig Vineyards on the Sunny Slope, one of Idaho’s core wine regions. They recently opened a beautiful new tasting room overlooking their crops, and you should definitely check it out in 2017! Of course we have to mention our own tasting room on the Boise River, where you’re always welcome to enjoy a glass of wine with great company. Feel free to bring a snack, or your favorite board game, and watch the river roll by. 4. The Snowpocolypse hit and you need a warm, welcoming place to enjoy wine while Boise thaws out. Seriously 2017, what is up with this weather? No matter - several Idaho wineries are open for you to take refuge, including Telaya! We have free wifi, and more importantly, a cozy environment for you to warm up with some excellent wines. We can’t wait to see you! The upside to a cold winter? We have events planned for a great evening out.
